You’re not starting over. You’re starting smarter. 🍂

Hi friend,

Can you feel it?

That little shift that happens this time of year?

The mornings start feeling different. The light changes. Pumpkin-flavored everything begins invading our lives. And suddenly I want candles burning, something simmering in a crockpot, and absolutely no responsibilities after about 6 p.m. 😂

Spooky Season is almost here.

And weirdly, fall always makes me want to get my life together.

Not January.

October.

Maybe it's all those years of back-to-school conditioning, but September and October always feel like a second New Year to me.

So this week, I want to give you something to think about as we head into the last stretch of 2026.

🍂 YOU ARE NOT STARTING OVER

I've been thinking a lot about the phrase starting over.

We say it when we're considering changing careers.

Leaving a relationship.

Starting a business.

Moving.

Getting healthy.

Fixing our finances.

Or simply admitting that the life we've been living doesn't fit anymore.

But here's the thing:

At this age, we aren't starting over.

We're starting with DATA.

Decades of it.

We know what worked.

We know what didn't.

We know which red flags we once painted green.

We know what kind of work drains us.

We know what we're good at—even if we're only beginning to recognize some of those things as actual skills.

We know what happens when we ignore ourselves for too long.

And we're beginning to understand what we're no longer willing to spend another decade tolerating.

I wrote about this more deeply this week:

→ READ: “You’re Not Starting Over at 50. You’re Starting With 30 Years of Data.”

But here's a little exercise you can do without going anywhere.

Grab a notebook and make three columns:

WHAT WORKED | WHAT DIDN'T | WHAT I KNOW NOW

Then pick one area of your life.

Career. Money. Relationships. Health. Family. Whatever is weighing on you lately.

Give yourself ten quiet minutes and fill those columns.

Don't overthink it.

Because somewhere inside those answers is information about what your next chapter needs to look like.

🎥 THIS WEEK ON YOUTUBE

We're also talking about confidence this week—but probably not the way you'd expect.

I don't think most of us need another person telling us to “just believe in yourself.”

What we need is evidence.

So in my latest video, we're talking about:

How to Rebuild Your Confidence When You’ve Spent Years Underestimating Yourself

And one of the ideas I want you to take away from it is this:

Confidence isn't believing nothing will go wrong. It's trusting yourself when something does.

That's a very different kind of confidence.

And while you're there, subscribe. We're building something really interesting over on YouTube around midlife reinvention, careers, confidence, money, health and figuring out what the heck we actually want now.

💗 NEED A PLACE TO START?

If all of this sounds wonderful but you're thinking:

Michelle, that's great. I don't even know what I WANT.

I made something for you.

The 7-Day Rebuilding Reset is completely free.

It's seven days of prompts designed to help you get out of autopilot for a minute, take stock of where you are and start figuring out what you actually want the next chapter to look like.

🔮 AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY UNPRODUCTIVE...

Can we discuss the fact that Practical Magic 2 is finally here?!

I haven't seen it yet, and I am ridiculously excited.

Sandra Bullock.

Nicole Kidman.

The Owens women.

Witchy houses.

Fall.

Give it to me.

This is exactly the kind of movie that makes me want to abandon all responsibilities, light seventeen candles and decide that drinking something warm from an unnecessarily large mug constitutes self-care.

And apparently we're going directly from witch season into wizard season because the new Harry Potter HBO series is coming soon.

And yes.

I'm a Potter nerd.

Completely unapologetically.

There is something incredibly comforting about returning to fictional worlds we loved when we were younger.

Maybe that's another midlife thing.

We're building new lives, yes.

But we're also rediscovering pieces of ourselves that got buried under jobs, children, bills, relationships and approximately 47,000 responsibilities.

Sometimes that's a dream we forgot.

Sometimes it's a hobby.

Sometimes it's ambition.

And sometimes it's wanting to go back to Hogwarts.

All of it counts.

🍁 ONE MORE THING BEFORE YOU GO

We're heading into what can become one of the busiest seasons of the year.

Halloween.

Thanksgiving.

Christmas.

Shopping.

Cooking.

Family.

Money.

Expectations.

Obligations.

And women have a remarkable tendency to become the unpaid project managers of everyone else's holiday experience.

So before the holiday machine really gets rolling, I want you to decide something:

What do YOU want this season to feel like?

Not what do you need to buy.

Not what traditions are you responsible for maintaining.

Not what does everybody else expect.

How do you want to feel?

Cozy?

Playful?

Peaceful?

Connected?

Rested?

Adventurous?

Pick three words.

Write them somewhere.

And when the holiday craziness starts asking you to do seventeen things you don't actually want to do, come back to them.

We're allowed to build holidays that belong to us, too.

Have a beautiful Sunday.

And if you do the three-column exercise, hit reply and tell me something you discovered. I read your responses.

Here's to cooler weather, new chapters, spooky movies, Hogwarts—and women finally realizing how much life they still have ahead of them.

❤️

Jessi/Michelle

Rebuilding the Life That Belongs to You

P.S. If you need a tiny nudge this week, ask yourself:

What is ONE thing I can do before next Sunday that the woman I'm becoming would do?

Then do that.

We're not rebuilding everything this week.

We're just collecting another piece of evidence.
